SSC CHSL English Syllabus and Pattern 2018: Staff Selection Commissions that is the SSC has now announced the English syllabus for the Combined Higher Secondary Level that is CHSL exam applied post. It is a tough exam, so it is difficult for the candidates to clear it out.  Only the candidates who have worked hard would be able to make it out in the exam.

The exam is held every year and therefore the candidates would be increasing in number every year.

For candidates who are preparing and working hard for the examination must remember the exam syllabus and also the pattern.  Well, it has been noticed that the candidates have a good vision if solving mathematics problems easily and other aptitude problems too but where they lack is in their English grammar part m it is really difficult to manage the first thing to keep in mind is to have the syllabus of the exam.

Below is the  SSC CHSL English Syllabus and pattern of exam which you need to go through frequently to not miss out any topic

Syllabus and Pattern for the English Language For SSC CHSL:


  • Spot the Error
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Synonyms/Homonyms
  • Antonyms
  • Spellings/ Detecting Mis-spelt words
  • Idioms & Phrases
  • One word substitution
  • Improvement of Sentences
  • Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs
  • Conversion into Direct/Indirect narration
  • Shuffling of Sentence parts
  • Shuffling of Sentences in a passage
  • Cloze Passage
  • Comprehension Passage

The section for English Exam will carry 50 marks. Each question will be carrying one mark and the thing that the person should keep in mind that the questions will all be objective so there are more chances of getting confused.  This is not as appropriate as math as English is a language, one has to be very particular about the verbs and also have a strong grammar in order to clear the section.

You can supposedly perform very good in the other three section excluding English but if you are not able to make it up for this section then there will be a huge downfall in your marks.  Now I bet no one would want it.

Therefore try  OK choose the correct options and verify it twice read the sentence carefully.  As you one wrong answer will lead to the deduction of 0.25 marks.  So please be careful and wise enough to choose the right answer for the questions.

Also since the exam is to be held in September the candidates must keep in mind to go through the various books and also English model question papers and previous Year question papers in order to have an idea about the types of questions asked in the exam.

Until and unless the candidates have actually practiced different types of questions asked they will not be able to make it up to the exam.  No matter how good you are in English sometimes you need to be smart to tackle the answer.

Also, the most important thing to take care of is the management of time. Sometime dig happens that the candidates easily know all the answers to their questions but because of lack of time, they are not able to properly solve the questions.

So while managing and practicing for the exam you must also keep in mind to check that how much time was taken by you to complete one question. A do what Time should you allot to other sections in order to have completed the exam on time.

The English syllabus has been provided to you. You must start working by now in order to have achieved good marks in the examination.

Do practice your grammar part from different books and make it strong.
